We will be having 4 Exercises that needs to be completed by the end of this semester. Besides that, there's the Rubric in other word Marking Criteria. Then there's the Portfolio where we need to have an e-Portfolio (which im doing right now) and the documented type of portfolio (the hardcopy). Afterwards, we were given our 1st assignment which was to find 10 personal pictures and 10 pictures that was taken by a professional photographer that we like best. So, that's about it.

Photography : Exercise 2a & 2b

23.8.2013 (week 4)
Faizah Hassan -  0316234

Exercise 2 : Exposure

Lecture
In this exercise, Mr Vinod showed us how to use the Aperture settings. In definition, Aperture means to control the amount of light entering the lens and to also control the depth of field (clarity). Lens have a set of marked "f-stops". For example : f2, f2.8, f4....f32. The bigger the number of the Aperture, the smaller the whole in the lens and vice versa. If the Aperture hole is big, the depth of field will be blurry.

Instruction

  1.  Use a subject that is repetitive in nature.
  2.  If you are using a zoom lens keep it fixed at 50mm.
  3.  When you mount the camera on the tripod don’t move the framing till the exercise is concluded.
  4.  The focus must be at the same point from the first image right till the last. DO NOT ADJUST IT!.
  5.  Keep a record of the settings for each image shot
  6. Once exercise is concluded, download all images of this exercise into a folder and call it "Exercise 2a : Aperture"
Instruction - Exercise 2a
  • Student must capture any image that is repetitive in nature starting with the lowest Aperture, right exposure and maintain the ISO at 200.
  • Start taking the photo with the lowest Aperture and gradually increase it but care to not change the shutter speed.

* Sorry for the 1st photo, I noticed that I didn't focus on the object right after I got home.
FEEDBACK!
  • Focus my picture
  • Write down instructions for every exercise

Reflection

For this exercise, I've learnt how to control the Aperture, Shutter Speed, Exposure and the ISO. I know understand that by choosing certain aperture, it will give out different type of clarity. While I was conducting this exercise, I was using a tripod stand. This is because the combination of the ISO, Shutter Speed and the Aperture that I used might make my image looks a lil bit shaky. I didn't know that by putting a little weight on the tripod stand can destroy my picture. So, I was told by Mr. Vinod to not lean, press or even move the tripod stand for it will make my image look blurry.

So, basically. That's what I've learnt for this Exercise. Below is the screenshot of my folio.

Photography 1st Assignment

This morning, I had to do a presentation for my first assignment in Photography class. Above is the picture that I chose. We were told to search for 5 personal photos that we find interesting and 5 photos of professional photographer that attract our attention. Since this is my first photography class and I had no idea how to explain the photos using the "hues, saturation, noise" and such. I stick to the things i know best which is the story behind the pictures.

Mr Vinod did mention that i had to read the criteria and that my presentation must be relevant. Besides that in the previous class, he showed us some of his picture that he took which I think are quite awesome! Furthermore, he showed us the learning outcomes that we should get by the end of the semester which i think is a great thing to do so that we could actually have a clue of what we're going to learn.

Basically, just to recap what i've learnt today :

  • Look sharp, Talk sharp, Think sharp
  • Do more research
  • Understand question and instruction correctly
  • Don't be afraid to ask question.
  • You snooze u loose baby!
  • Always be confident
Below are the pictures and elaboration of the photos.

This photo was taken by my friend Adhwa Shamila Aminuddin in January 8th 2011. This photo took place in my room after we did a video and a song cover for our band. In this photo highlights the beauty of the guitar. I love how the guitar and the bamboo curtain work together to create a beautiful picture. Ofcourse there is a little help from my table lamp .

This is a picture once again taken by my friend Adhwa Shamila Aminuddin at Brainy Bunch Montessori in January 14th 2013. This photo shows how kids can easily bond and love each other and I think that it’s beautiful.

This photo was taken December 30th, 2010 at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah highschool (my school) by me. This Flower is called Water Lettuce or what the Malays call it “Bunga Kiambang”. This plant is known to treat wounds. I find interest in this picture because it shows how beautiful nature can be.

Photo taken by Jack Xender on April 28th 2012. “Wonderful Tree Puzzle” is the name given. This photo shows how nature can be so beautiful and that it calms me down whenever I look at the picture. Especially when you look at the picture how the tree is placed as if it looked like a puzzle piece.
This shot was taken by Pravin Sivananthan  in August 6 2012. This photo shows a lot of love and the boy actually looked happy too.

For England , by Russ Barnes. Photo was taken in Worcestershire. A marvelous landscape picture with red flowers.
Shot taken by Hether West. On July 23, 2013.
I quote “ The wild has an amazing way of granting clarity in an otherwise chaotic world.” This photo was taken at the second most highest mountains in Washington which she could see a sea of clouds beneath her. The beauty and power of nature.

Focus On The Day That’s Been, by Robert Bradley. January 9th 2011
He waited for a really long time just to get the sun stayed behind the lighthouse. And when the time finally came, the man (middle left) raised his hand to look at the ship in the distance. That’s when he knew he had his shot.

Photo taken by Ben Ward
This shot actually won him the best London photography prize in 2011.As they said it’s a great photo that captures a group of likeminded friends perfectly

The shot was taken by Steve McCury in December 1984.  Sharbat Gula was the name of the girl and she was living as a refugee in Pakistan during the time of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. This picture is sometimes popularly referred to as "the Afghan Mona Lisa".

FEEDBACK
  • Try not to put many words beside our picture, and make the picture look as big and clear as possible.
  • Be clear whenever we're presenting. Because we;re presenting to other people and its compulsory for everyone to understand what we're presenting
REFLECTION
  • Some of my friends used this term called 'noise'. I didn't quite understand at first but then she told me something about the picture being rough. So, atleast I'm a bit enlightened.
